Welcome to Elementary Music
Students in Elementary School have music class two times a week. They learn to read and write music through singing and playing classroom instruments. Creative movement and dance is an integral and important part of music program, too.
Elementary music curriculum in ASW is based on mixture of hands on approaches. The primary method the music curriculum is based on is the Kodály Method. The Kodaly Method complements with Orff-Schulwerk approach which is the mainstreaming approach for elementary music education. Majority of song material is drawn from authentic children folk music and it is used as a main vehicle for teaching music in our classroom. From the Grade Level menu you can access the songs, instrumental pieces and games that children sing and play in music class. Some of these pieces have been taped and are available for viewing.
ES Choir is a year-long after school activity. Choir will perform in October at the UN Day assembly, in December at the Holiday Concert and in May at the Spring Concert.
